The Human Rights and Justice Organization (HRJO) has issued a compelling call to the international community, urging for an investigation into the extrajudicial killings and arbitrary detention of Somalilanders in Somalia.
The organization has expressed deep concern over the recent cases of violence, including the brutal murders of Mr. Abdinasir Muse, Mr. Abdi Haji Hasan Abraar, and Mr. Ahmed Aden, all of whom were citizens of the Republic of Somaliland. Furthermore, several aviation professionals from Somaliland, recruited by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), have been reportedly detained by the National Intelligence Security Agency (NISA) of Somalia, with allegations of torture and one individual said to have died due to being waterboarded.
Of particular concern is the pattern that has emerged, indicating that all victims are of Somaliland origin, particularly of Isaaq Somalilanders, who have historically been a targeted group. The recent incidents are believed to be in retaliation following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Republic of Somaliland and the federal Republic of Ethiopia, which has sparked tensions with Somalia.
The HRJO has also highlighted the distress calls from Somalilanders residing in Somalia, who fear for their safety and have no means of escape. The organization has reported intensified propaganda and hate speech from the Somalia government and citizens, including threats against Somaliland and Ethiopia.
In light of these alarming developments, the HRJO is urgently appealing to the international community and human rights organizations to assist in the safe evacuation of Somalilanders residing in Somalia. The organization is calling for a thorough investigation into these incidents and emphasizes the need for transparency and accountability to hold Somalia accountable for its actions.
